PHOTOGRAMMETRY

Photogrammetry is a process that converts photographs into detailed and true-to-life 3D models through a series of steps. Taking photos from various angles using cameras or drones ensures that every detail is captured. These images are processed with specialized software that identifies common points to create a dense point cloud, which is transformed into a 3D mesh. The model is further refined for accuracy and visual quality. Finally, it can be exported in different formats for various applications, such as architecture, virtual reality, game development, and cultural heritage documentation.

Since 2018, we have been exploring the potential of photogrammetry in our projects, delving into its numerous applications and advantages. Here are some results of our scans rendered in Blender using Eevee.

STATUES, ROCKS, AND TREES

We used photogrammetry to create asset packs for the Unity Asset Store to produce high-quality 3D models that capture the details and textures of various objects. We focussed on some classical statues and decorative sculptures, trees and trunks, generic yet interesting rocks and boulders for realistic landscapes, and bollards to enhance urban and rural scenes.

OBJECT SCANS

In addition to our extensive work with larger subjects, we have also focused on capturing the intricate details of smaller objects, such as seashells, pebbles, and various other items. These delicate objects often possess unique textures and features that can be beautifully highlighted through detailed 3D scanning.

To optimize the scanning process and ensure the highest quality results, we have designed a custom 3D-printed prop holder. This innovative tool securely supports each item during the scanning process while minimizing any obstruction that might interfere with the detail capture. The prop holder is tailored to accommodate different shapes and sizes, allowing us to adjust our setup for various small objects efficiently.

The process emphasizes precision, ensuring every detail is captured in stunning clarity. Photogrammetry is a versatile approach used for artistic preservation, design enhancement, or digital archiving. If you're curious about how this technique can highlight the beauty of small objects, we'd be happy to share more insights!

PHOTOGRAMMETRY MATERIALS

In addition to capturing objects, photogrammetry can also create realistic textures for various surfaces. After conducting some experiments, we developed a workflow that allows us to capture suitable surfaces and consistently produce high-quality tileable textures. We utilize this technique to create incredible materials for our projects.
